Positive education
Learning enrichment and extension
Empowering students to thrive academically, socially, and personally by recognising their unique strengths and needs.
Through tailored programs, targeted support, and inclusive classroom practices, we aim to foster confidence, resilience, and a Love of Learning. Our dedicated Learning Enrichment team works in partnership with teachers, families, and specialists to provide individualised strategies and pathways, ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their potential and flourish within our Marist community and beyond.
Learning Enrichment Centre
The Learning Enrichment Centre (LEC) is a place open to students with additional learning needs. In the LEC, students can access small group support or one-on-one assistance. The LEC provides students with an alternate environment to the traditional classroom that may help them regulate or support their engagement with learning and wellbeing. The Centre is staffed by a team of LEC Tutors and managed by the Learning Enrichment Team. This space is open Monday to Thursday until 4.30pm for any students who wish to access close support outside of school hours.
Personal Plan for Learning (PPL)
Personalised plans for learning (PPL) are carefully curated for teacher use, and for family access. PPLs outline specific needs of students, inline with a diagnosed or imputed need. The PPLs are developed by the Learning Enrichment Team, and when appropriate, are guided by a psychological, and/or educational assessment.
Twice annually, a student’s PPL is reviewed and updated to ensure they are meeting the contemporary needs of the young person, and parents, caregivers, school staff and various learning and wellbeing specialists all contribute to the PPL to ensure it is most effective and best supports the achievement of success.
Support is aligned with each student’s Personalised Plan for Learning (PPL), ensuring adjustments are implemented effectively to foster academic growth and overall wellbeing.
Gifted and Talented Program
Sacred Heart College provides developmentally appropriate educational provisions and strategies for the identification and education of all gifted and talented students enrolled at the College in order to meet their education potential through opportunities within and beyond the school curriculum.
A variety of data is used to identify students who have high intellectual potential including assessments of cognitive development administered by psychologists, NAPLAN data, Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) Data on Reading, Writing, General Reasoning Skills and Mathematical Reasoning and Statement of Results Grade Data. Teachers also recommend students for extension, involvement in curriculum extension activities and/or acceleration.
Gifted and talented learners are supported both within the mailstream classroom through a differentiated program to engage and support their special gifts and talents, and beyond the classroom through Curriculum Enrichment opportunities.
In senior years, students who have demonstrated and sustained outstanding achievements and engagement may be eligible to undertake one Stage 1 subject while in Year 10, one Stage 2 subject while in Year 11 and one University subject while in Year 12.
The Gifted and Talented and Acceleration Program at Champagnat Campus and Marcellin Campus is supported by the Learning Enrichment Team.
Learning Enrichment Team
The Learning Enrichment Team supports students with additional learning needs to succeed in the classroom and around the campus, using a range of in-class and group support models to support students. Students with additional learning needs, and their families, are supported on an individual basis by Learning Enrichment Tutors, Leaders of Learning Enrichment and the Director of Learning Enrichment.
The Learning Enrichment Team support the delivery of intervention programs in Literacy and Numeracy and support students with all aspects of their learning in line with the adjustments that have been made by their teachers as outlined in their Personalised Plan for Learning (PPL).
