Leo Garcia 2026 College Captain

When I am asked about my journey from my time at Sacred Heart, it is a common assumption that one’s school journey begins from the first class, day, or walking through the school gates bearing the uniform for the first time. Although for me, sure, there was that first day, but definitely not the first moment. Sacred Heart is a place of connection, loyalty, and pride, and through the generations of my family and friends, I have been lucky enough to feel welcomed in the community from my earliest days. From cousins and brothers' sports, school concerts, and the illustrious Sacred Heart catholic calendar of events have provided me with a special pathway granting me a one of a kind schooling career.

Despite my profound pride in wearing my uniform every single day I never once thought that I would be going for let alone being college captain. If there’s one thing that my journey has taught me, it is to take action now, do it now, because before you know it, the moment has passed and we must make the most of it while we can.

No matter what path you start on with Sacred Heart, you will find not just friends but also yourself along the way, and in starting this new chapter, do not fret, do not stress, for you have begun what is best for you.

I can not pinpoint a time when leadership was not a component of my life, nor a time when Sacred Heart College was not a part of my identity. What began as a simple enthusiasm to represent others transformed into a passion for giving people a voice, ensuring that each student feels heard and valued.

The College has shaped who I am long before this position. My older brother was a scholar, and his experiences introduced me to the culture of pride and unity that defines Sacred Heart. Ever since I was 12 years old, the double blue uniform has symbolised more than just a compulsory aspect. It reflects dedication, respect, and a shared commitment to uphold the College’s values every day.

Opportunities across the Champagnat and Marcellin Campuses have enabled me to not only grow as a leader but as a person. Along the way, I have built lifelong relationships with peers who have become close friends and teachers who genuinely care about our future. Their continuous guidance, along with the College’s endless facilities and unwavering support network, has created every challenge into a chance to learn.

My Sacred Heart journey has provided me with courage, perseverance, and an identity embedded in pride and connection. If you are beginning your own path at Sacred Heart College, know that you are entering a community that will inspire you, challenge you, but most importantly, stay with you for life.
