Hearts News – Week 8 Term 2 2026

SH_3213

Our Sacred Heart College community gathered across both campuses to celebrate the Feast Day of St Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers. Through Mass, prayer and reflection, we honoured his enduring legacy and the Marist values of faith, service, humility and Family Spirit that continue to guide us today. 💙

To our Sacred Heart College community

One of the great strengths of Sacred Heart College is the dedication and commitment of our staff, and this year we proudly recognise 24 colleagues who have each contributed 20 or more years of service to Marist and Good Samaritan Education.

Recently acknowledged during our Feast Day Masses, these staff members represent more than 590 years of combined service. Their passion for education, care for young people and steadfast commitment to our values have shaped the lives of countless students and families over many decades. Their enduring service is a testament to the mission of our College and the lasting impact of Marist education. On behalf of our entire Hearts community, I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to each of them.

Honouring St Marcellin Champagnat on his Feast Day

To mark the Feast of St Marcellin Champagnat on 6 June, each campus gathered to celebrate Mass together. These Eucharistic celebrations highlighted our global Marist family, which now includes more than 600 schools and colleges worldwide. St Marcellin was a man full of grace, who loved Jesus and served others, transforming the world with God’s love. His courage and strength continue to inspire the Sacred Heart College community today.

At each Feast Day Mass across both campuses, 24 staff were celebrated for their significant service to Marist Schools Australia and Good Samaritan Education. You can read Principal, Mr Lynch’s congratulations to these staff above.

At the conclusion of each Mass, presentations were made to the Marist Brothers in attendance as a gesture of gratitude for preserving the legacy of St Marcellin Champagnant. Champagnat students also engaged in a Feast Day-themed Quiz with St Marcellin Champagnat brought to life by Campus Captain (Cian), who challenged participants with questions about our founder’s life and mission.

At Marcellin Campus, we commissioned five students who performed the role of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the first time. Callum, Leo, Jack, Evana and Jessica demonstrated great courage, faith and generosity in serving our community. By stepping forward to share in this sacred ministry, they embody true Family Spirit. Their commitment reflects the importance of servant leadership and living out our Marist values.

Class of 2026 Unveils Their Year 12 Jumpers

The Year 12 Class of 2026 were thrilled to receive a surprise today after their Year 12 Assembly with the presentation of their new Year 12 quarter-zip jumpers. Students couldn’t wait to put them on, proudly showing off the new design.

Created through weeks of consultation and designed by a committee of Year 12 students, the jumper celebrates their final year at Sacred Heart College and reflects the strong Hearts Family Spirit that has been part of their journey. Here’s to wearing them with pride throughout their final year.

MSol Community Clean Up Walk

A group of Marist Solidarity (MSol) students recently took part in a Community Clean Up Walk last Wednesday, demonstrating their commitment towards environmental stewardship and care for the wider community. The initiative provided students with an opportunity to make a positive impact while raising awareness about the importance of keeping our local environment clean and sustainable.

This term, MSol has had a focus on environmental awareness, in particular keeping our community clean and litter free. We teamed up with Clean Up Australia and hosted our very own clean up walk through the streets of Somerton Park.

To our surprise and delight, the streets were relatively clean with not a lot of litter to pick up. However, every little bit counts and MSol are going to make the Community Clean Up walk a regular occurrence with one happening every term. Remember, keeping the environment clean is everyone’s responsibility!

Year 7 Q&A with MPs

Our Year 7 students took a deep dive into civic engagement during a special student-led Q&A panel at Champagnat Campus recently. The event brought the world of Federal Parliament directly to our school, giving students a unique opportunity to engage with their elected representatives Mrs Louise Miller-Frost MP, Federal Member for Boothby, and Senator Charlotte Walker, the youngest senator to be elected in Australian history.

The morning began with an introduction highlighting the importance of democracy and community voice. Our hosts, Izaak, Rachel, and Elise, did a spectacular job driving the formal proceedings from there. Students learned about what a day in the life of an MP looks like and what inspired both guests to enter politics. Our Year 7 panel didn’t shy away from asking the tough, critical questions on topics that matter most to young Australians today, addressing local issues like hospital ramping and how emergency services can be improved, why fuel prices are high, what actions are reducing the cost of living, and how housing can be made more affordable for the next generation.

Both Mrs Miller-Frost and Senator Walker answered each question with impressive openness, giving our cohorts a real insight into the challenges and rewards of public service. A huge congratulations to our student panelists for their thorough preparation and leadership, and a sincere thank you to Mrs Miller-Frost and Senator Walker for inspiring our students to think about how they can help shape the future!

Arts & Music News

‘The Last Decade’– Champagnat Arts Showcase

The Arts came alive at Champagnat Campus last Wednesday night for the 2026 Arts Showcase, ‘The Last Decade’! Throughout the three sessions of the night, we saw amazing dance, drama, and music performances across Years 7 to 9, plus a guest dance act from Marcellin Campus’ Senior Dance group.

Students have learnt how to collaborate, manage pressure, and show confidence while showcasing individual artistry and talent through different forms of performance. We are so proud of everyone who took part with courage and a strong sense of Family Spirit. Being on stage is an incredible life experience and is a memory that many students cherish throughout their schooling and later on in life.

The Arts has grown significantly in 2026 with a record six CEA rock bands, a new Dance Club and more. We thank Head of Arts at Champagnat, Ms Vistoli and Director of Music Performance Ms Page, alongside the numerous Arts Leaders and arts staff that contributed to the magic of the Last Decade.

Sports News

Cross Country State Championships

Twenty-two students from Champagnat Campus and four students from Marcellin Campus travelled to Oakbank to compete in the School Sport SA Cross Country State Championships on Thursday 4 June. As is often the case with cross country events, our athletes were greeted by challenging conditions, with cold temperatures, rain, and strong winds throughout the day. Despite the weather, the enthusiasm, determination, and positive spirit of our students never wavered.

With races scheduled throughout the day, there was little downtime for the Sacred Heart contingent. The athletes were busy preparing, warming up, competing, and supporting their teammates, creating a wonderful sense of camaraderie and school pride. The difficult weather conditions tested every competitor, but our students embraced the challenge and demonstrated remarkable resilience and perseverance.

All Sacred Heart athletes represented the College with pride, respect, and sportsmanship, giving their best effort in every race. Their commitment and determination were evident as they pushed themselves to achieve their personal bests while encouraging those around them.

We were delighted to celebrate a number of outstanding performances, including several top-10 finishes across various age groups. While these results are certainly commendable, the true highlight of the day was the effort, courage, and positive attitude displayed by every athlete.

Competing at a state-level event is a significant achievement in itself, and each student should be proud of the way they represented both themselves and the College. Congratulations to all competitors on a fantastic day of racing and for embodying the values of Sacred Heart College throughout the championship.

SHC takes home silver at Team Surfing Championships

A special congratulations to the Sacred Heart White Surfing team, who delivered an outstanding performance to claim the silver medal and finish as runners-up in the School Sport SA Team Surfing Championships on Friday 12 June.

Sacred Heart College’s surfers qualified for the Finals Day earlier this term, a particularly significant achievement as it is the first time in many years that a Sacred Heart team has progressed through to the championship finals. Even more impressively, both Sacred Heart teams qualified for the Finals Day, joining a field of six teams competing for state honours. Final placings were determined by the combined points earned across two rounds of competition, making consistency throughout the day crucial, with our two teams claiming silver and 4th place!

Well done to all students who competed and contributed to this fantastic result for Sacred Heart College. Results from the day can be found here.
